Transformation: Kersia’s response to food safety challenges in a +1°C world and 9 billion people

On the occasion of the World Day for Food Safety, Kersia reaffirms its commitment to safe, sustainable and resilient food in the face of global health and climate challenges.
16 acquisitions*since 2015, the Kersia Group, a global specialist in food safety, is continuing and accelerating its transformation. Its ambition: to guarantee pathogen-free food for end consumers while optimising the industrial and environmental performance of its agricultural, agri-food and institutional catering customers. Kersia is acting by deploying its offer of sustainable biosecurity solutions and expert services: solutions less dependent on fossil fuels, innovative products (e.g. biotechnology), protocols that reduce the water and energy consumption of its customers. Anne-Charlotte Quercia, head of the Transformation Department, recalls the foundations and challenges of the initiative.

Supporting the agricultural world and agribusiness in the face of climate change and new societal requirements.

The Kersia Group is at the heart of the challenges of the Agricultural and Agri-Food sectors. Climate change, population growth, increased frequency of zoonotic diseases, and the need to reduce energy and water consumption are increasing the need for expert biosecurity solutions. A 1°C warming in the Earth’s temperature increases
the incidence of salmonella by 5 to 10%; 600 million people, or nearly one in 10 in the world, fall ill each year
, 420,000 die from it
(DALY) (source WHO). This is why Kersia continues to adapt to support professionals (breeders, producers, manufacturers, manufacturers, etc.) who trust it with even more
proximity, responsiveness, advice and expertise.
By committing to the transformation of its company, Kersia is responding to the strong aspiration of consumers for quality, safe food that respects the environment and animal
welfare.
This ambition is supported within the group by the CSR program “Act For a Positive Impact“**. The Science Based Targets initiative validated in December 2024 that the
scientific greenhouse gas emission reduction targets submitted by Kersia are in line with the SBTi criteria and recommendations. Many of the actions of the Climate Plan are directly linked to the transformation of the offer.

Accelerating the delivery of holistic solutions

With a global population to feed of 9 billion by 2050, it is not a question of doing less, but differently. Today, Kersia is a provider of solutions based mainly on chemistry, and in the medium term, Kersia aims to offer mixed and complementary solutions combining research and innovation in biotechnology, consulting and support, and the development of digital tools for managing and monitoring solutions. For example, Kersia is working on pilots to monitor and optimize the consumption of water, energy and cleaning and disinfection products in industrial processes; and on tools allowing the identification and anticipation of events such as lameness, milk fever, which degrade the performance of farms with preventive applications of Kersia products.

Kersia’s ambition is to be able to prevent critical events (such as contamination) and to provide responses that contribute to the performance of its customers.

« Transformation is not an objective, it is a path. The transformation plan is based on what already exists, on what we are already doing, what can be completed and improved. We give ourselves the right to test, observe, adjust, take the time to appropriate the new business model. To do this, I can count on a solid and committed organization, with teams that have an appetite for building and bringing change to all employees and customers ».

The Director of Transformation can also count on the Committed and Different program, Kersia’s Actors of Change program launched by the group in 2019 in collaboration with the NGO Ashoka, which will allow her to rely on the skills of these “change maker” employees in order to accelerate this transformation.
